Um, Uh Oh… New Say Hi Out Now

Eric Elbogen (Say Hi)

As you may or may not know tomorrow is going to be one of the most important days of the year… well at least in the world of music. You see the 25th is the release date for a handful of highly anticipated albums, including Gutter Rainbows (Talib Kweli), Mine is Yours (Cold War Kids), Kiss Each Other Clean (Iron & Wine), and Kaputt (Destroyer).

There is another release coming out that day and it isn’t getting much hype. Eric Elbogen is the creative mind behind Say Hi, and he will be releasing his seventh full-length album titled Um, Uh Oh. In order to celebrate the release of Um, Uh Oh, I am posting my ten favorite Say Hi tracks. Today I will be posting number one, below you will see my previous posts.

#2 – “They Write Books About this Sort of Thing”
#3 – “Maurine”
#4 – “I Think I’ll Be A Good Ghost”
#5 – “These Fangs”
#6 – “Your Brains vs My Tractorbeam”
#7 – “Northwestern Girls”

Um, Uh Oh… New Say Hi in Less than Two Days

Discosadness (2002)

Less than two days until the latest release from Say Hi. In order to celebrate the release of Um, Uh Oh, I am posting my ten favorite Say Hi tracks. Today I will be posting number two, below you will see my previous posts.

#3 – “Maurine”
#4 – “I Think I’ll Be A Good Ghost”
#5 – “These Fangs”
#6 – “Your Brains vs My Tractorbeam”
#7 – “Northwestern Girls”
#8 – “Yeah, I’m in Love with an Android”
#9 – “Blah, Blah, Blah”
#10 – “Let’s Talk About Spaceships”

I think it is always important to list early work of an artist when making these top ten lists. It is in my opinion that the first album of any artist defines their musical career. We hear a lot of talk about how if a record company doesn’t promote an album it is doomed to fail. The problem is than in those examples in order to succeed the album needs to sell, but honestly selling copies doesn’t determine if the content is a success. I will say though there needs to be at least some sort of potential, other wise the artist wont get a second chance.

Um, Uh Oh… New Say Hi in Less than Three Days

Cover of "Oohs & Aahs"

Oohs & Aahs (2009)

Less than three days until the latest release from Say Hi. In order to celebrate the release of Um, Uh Oh, I am posting my ten favorite Say Hi tracks. Today I will be posting number three and below you will see my previous posts.

#4 – “I Think I’ll Be A Good Ghost”
#5 – “These Fangs”
#6 – “Your Brains vs My Tractorbeam”
#7 – “Northwestern Girls”
#8 – “Yeah, I’m in Love with an Android”
#9 – “Blah, Blah, Blah”
#10 – “Let’s Talk About Spaceships”

“Maurine” is the only track from 2009′s Oohs & Aahs to make my list. That doesn’t mean that I didn’t like the album though, in fact it is one of my favorites. It is just that when choosing specific songs sometimes they come from one album more than another. Oohs & Aahs is definitely more than the sum of its parts.

Ok, so I had a crazy busy day and could not get this post up earlier but it still technically will be posted on its intended date.

Only five days until the latest release from Say Hi. In order to celebrate the release of Um, Uh Oh, I am posting my ten favorite Say Hi tracks. Today I will be posting number five and below you will see my previous posts.

#7 – “Northwestern Girls”
#8 – “Yeah, I’m in Love with an Android”
#9 – “Blah, Blah, Blah”
#10 – “Let’s Talk About Spaceships”

Earlier today Say Hi was musing on his official twitter feed, @ericelbogen, on when T. Rex was no longer introduced in articles as “T. Rex, formerly known as Tyrannosaurus Rex“. So, I shot a message over that I thought it was when T. Rex had released more albums under their current moniker, than their former. That being said, I did see his point and decided that my introduction on this series of posts needed to be changed. If you notice I did not mention the former name of Eric Elbogen’s work. :)

Only seven days until the latest release from Say Hi, formerly Say Hi to Your Mom. In order to celebrate the release of Um, Uh Oh, I am posting my ten favorite Say Hi tracks. Today I will be posting number seven and below you will see numbers eight, nine, and ten.

#8 – “Yeah, I’m in Love with an Android”

Today’s entry comes from 2008′s The Wishes and the Glitch, the first album Eric Elbogen released with the new name Say Hi. He changed it after using Say Hi to Your Mom on four previous albums. This album was also the first release to be put out on vinyl and I couldn’t have been more excited. When I went to see Say Hi perform at Kilby Court in the fall of 2008, I made sure to get my copy of the LP.

Um, Uh Oh… New Say Hi in Nine Days

Eric Elbogen

Only nine days until the latest release from Say Hi, formerly Say Hi to Your Mom. In order to celebrate the release of Um, Uh Oh, I am posting my ten favorite Say Hi tracks. Today I will be posting number nine, see number ten here. Also, check out my post “Say Hi… Again” for details about the release.

Today’s track comes from 2006′s Impeccable Blahs. The album is a dedication to vampires and each track in some way is references the fanged beasts of the night. Eric Elbogen, the creative mind behind Say Hi, was a little bit ahead of the times as Twilight and other vampire franchises hadn’t yet become part of pop culture the way they are today.
