Music The Vander Wey’s June Love Song Mix Tape
Posted by musicthevanderwey in Alternative, Emo, Indie Rock, The Cribs, The Killers on June 16, 2011
Normally, I am not all that big on love songs. In fact, most of the time they trigger my natural gag reflex when I hear more than five in a row. But for some reason I am feeling sentimental tonight. Mainly, I suspect, because of this photo I stumbled across on the huffingtonpost.com.
I am going to make a point of not repeating any cliches about photos, but I do strongly believe this is a pretty remarkable photo. No, not because its a rare photo of Canadians rioting over something as lame as hockey. Rather, the image of violence, fire, and danger contrasted with that of unrepentant love. Like any good emo/indie rocker this image was enough to inspire me to make a mix tape. This is a mix tape of some of my favorite love songs. I want to point out that they aren’t bitter love songs or songs about love and the breaking up. Just pure at heart glurpy puppy dog love songs.
Vinyl from T. William’s Vault Vol. I

Last week my girlfriend was perusing through my collection of vinyl and as she made her way through, the small yet diverse collection, she started to place albums aside that she would like to have copies of. At the time getting her a copy of the chosen didn’t seem like a very big project, because I had assumed that I had digital copies of all, if not most, of them.
What Makes a Good Rock Show?
Posted by musicthevanderwey in Alternative, Emo, Indie Rock on March 9, 2011
This week I am anxiously waiting some really sweet new releases coming out in March. The Kills have a new album dropping may 5th, The Strokes have a new album dropping on March 22nd. Its that time of year when bands are trying to get their albums out in preparation for the summer tours. I know a lot of people that are going to Sasquatch and Coachella this year. I am almost tempted just because there are so many new albums dropping. The fact is though I hate most of those music festivals. First they are stupid expensive. I think Sasquatch was in the neighborhood of $300 for the weekend pass. The worst part of the music festival is that there are so many people you cannot really get that close to the action. The real reason to go would be to go see all of the smaller bands. Skip the main stage and head for the smaller acts.
Um, Uh Oh… New Say Hi Out Now
Posted by T. William Gooch in Alternative, Electronic, Indie Rock on January 24, 2011
As you may or may not know tomorrow is going to be one of the most important days of the year… well at least in the world of music. You see the 25th is the release date for a handful of highly anticipated albums, including Gutter Rainbows (Talib Kweli), Mine is Yours (Cold War Kids), Kiss Each Other Clean (Iron & Wine), and Kaputt (Destroyer).
There is another release coming out that day and it isn’t getting much hype. Eric Elbogen is the creative mind behind Say Hi, and he will be releasing his seventh full-length album titled Um, Uh Oh. In order to celebrate the release of Um, Uh Oh, I am posting my ten favorite Say Hi tracks. Today I will be posting number one, below you will see my previous posts.
#2 – “They Write Books About this Sort of Thing”
#3 – “Maurine”
#4 – “I Think I’ll Be A Good Ghost”
#5 – “These Fangs”
#6 – “Your Brains vs My Tractorbeam”
#7 – “Northwestern Girls”
#8 – “Yeah, I’m in Love with an Android”
#9 – “Blah, Blah, Blah”
#10 – “Let’s Talk About Spaceships”
Um, Uh Oh… New Say Hi in Less than Two Days

Less than two days until the latest release from Say Hi. In order to celebrate the release of Um, Uh Oh, I am posting my ten favorite Say Hi tracks. Today I will be posting number two, below you will see my previous posts.
#3 – “Maurine”
#4 – “I Think I’ll Be A Good Ghost”
#5 – “These Fangs”
#6 – “Your Brains vs My Tractorbeam”
#7 – “Northwestern Girls”
#8 – “Yeah, I’m in Love with an Android”
#9 – “Blah, Blah, Blah”
#10 – “Let’s Talk About Spaceships”
I think it is always important to list early work of an artist when making these top ten lists. It is in my opinion that the first album of any artist defines their musical career. We hear a lot of talk about how if a record company doesn’t promote an album it is doomed to fail. The problem is than in those examples in order to succeed the album needs to sell, but honestly selling copies doesn’t determine if the content is a success. I will say though there needs to be at least some sort of potential, other wise the artist wont get a second chance.
Um, Uh Oh… New Say Hi in Less than Three Days

Less than three days until the latest release from Say Hi. In order to celebrate the release of Um, Uh Oh, I am posting my ten favorite Say Hi tracks. Today I will be posting number three and below you will see my previous posts.
#4 – “I Think I’ll Be A Good Ghost”

#9 – “Blah, Blah, Blah”
#10 – “Let’s Talk About Spaceships”
“Maurine” is the only track from 2009′s Oohs & Aahs to make my list. That doesn’t mean that I didn’t like the album though, in fact it is one of my favorites. It is just that when choosing specific songs sometimes they come from one album more than another. Oohs & Aahs is definitely more than the sum of its parts.

I can’t believe that the new album will be out on Tuesday!! I am already planning my Tuesday around getting to the record store. Regrettably I didn’t pre-order Um, Uh Oh, so there is a possibility that I wont actually get it until a later date. I have decided that I must have it on vinyl, digital copies just wont do the job.

Earlier today Say Hi was musing on his official twitter feed, @ericelbogen, on when T. Rex was no longer introduced in articles as “T. Rex, formerly known as Tyrannosaurus Rex“. So, I shot a message over that I thought it was when T. Rex had released more albums under their current moniker, than their former. That being said, I did see his point and decided that my introduction on this series of posts needed to be changed. If you notice I did not mention the former name of Eric Elbogen’s work.
