Black Star, Yasiin Bey, and The Colbert Report

Wow you spend a couple of weeks away from watching The Colbert Report and great things happen. Apparently Mos Def has changed his performance name to Yasiin Bey and made an appearance with Talib Kweli to promote some new music as the duo Black Star.
First off I am not happy to hear that Mos Def is using a new moniker, but he tends to be a little excentric and that is why I like him. Also, if you haven’t seen Talib Kweli on The Colbert Report before, I suggest you find his interviews because he and Colbert have a great back-and-forth. Colbert with hip-hop artist in general is always great.
Odd Future: An Accidental Discovery

Part of my morning routine is to watch late night talk shows from the night before and this morning I was watching Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and hit the jackpot of music finds. The biggest reason I watch Jimmy Fallon is to hear what The Roots play for the guest’s walk-out music. To my surprise on last night’s show Mos Def was sitting in with the band. In order to see if he had any funny lines I decided to watch the whole show and found the most memorable part of the episode to be the musical guest.
An Adlib About Talib

Twenty ten is almost over and it is time to turn our focus to the future. Instead of living in the past I feel it is time to shed some light on album that is set to be released in 2011.
Talib Kweli, a personal favorite, has announced that Gutter Rainbows will be released next month. Kweli may not be a chart topper, but make no mistake his work should be noticed by those who consider themselves hip-hop fans. His last LP, Eardrum, was released in 2007. The album pushed the hip-hop veteran further into the spotlight, with tracks like “Hot Thing” and “Hostile Gospel, Pt.1 (Deliver US)”.
