The Netherfriends’ New Daytrotter Session

I’ve been surfing around Daytrotter’s Live Sessions again today when I stumbled upon a gem. Netherfriends just put out their second Daytrotter recording today and I had to give it a good listening too. Netherfriends are a fantastic indie rock band out of the great city of Chicago. The group has three EPs out and one full album entitled Barry and Sherry.

What I found to be particularly striking about Netherfriends’ Daytrotter Session was that it almost didn’t sound like a live recording. For example, one of my favorite bands, Tokyo Police Club, sound fantastic on their albums, but if you go see them live be prepared for a very different sound. They sound rough and their voices do not carry as well. Its actually sorta hard to sing along with their band. Netherfriends’ sound absolutely epic by comparison.  Their songs are fantastically complicated, with many different layers of vocals and I absolutely love stringed instruments in a indie rock band.
