Silversun Pickups: Neck Of The Woods
Posted by musicthevanderwey in Alternative, Indie Rock, New Releases on May 25, 2012
I have to admit that I am facing a bit of writer’s block when it comes to this Neck Of The Woods. Why? I just don’t know exactly how I feel about it. Upon the first listen, all I could make out that the album is dramatically different from previous releases from Silversun Pickups.
Before I even get a chance to hear the first song, I notice that the album art is completely different from any thing before, which is a serious bummer. Swoon and Carnavas had beautiful inspiring album art. It was so cool that it was even reflected and reproduced on the tour t-shirts! Why ruin a good thing?
The Silversun Pickups are rocking awesome

On Friday I was DJing on KGLT and I picked “Bookworm Devil” off of the Silversun Pickups first album Pikul. I hadn’t heard that song in probably four years. I wasn’t thinking much about it until it started playing. I had to stop what I was doing and turn the song up. I forgot just how amazing their first album is. If you haven’t heard the Silversun Pickups they are certainly worth a trip down to your local record store.
For a short album, only seven songs, Pikul is pretty varied in the songs composition. I think that a varied album is a critical element in a truly fantastic album.
