Ramona Falls: Prophet is Now Available for Pre-Order

Ramona Falls‘ sophomore release, Prophet, is now available for you to pre-order. The album will be released through Barsuk Records on May 1st and shortly after the Brent Knopf lead four-piece group will begin touring. Dates should be released soon.

Two tracks have been released for your listening pleasure, “Spore” and “Squorm”. Also Arcade44.tv caught up with Knopf and bassist Dave Lowensohn at SXSW last month to talk about Prophet. I enjoy Knopf‘s sense of humor, mostly because of his dead-pan delivery. As you may or may not know Knopf is a former member of Menomena, he left the group back in January of 2011 after the release of Mines. The departure has allowed him to focus more on the cultivation of his song writing with Ramona Falls.

David Bazan: Living Room Tour 2011

Last night I had the unique opportunity to have a well established indie rocker play in a living room setting, in beautiful Bozeman, Montana. We do not get many indie rock shows in Montana, let alone Bozeman. But we really struck gold. David Bazan has been on his Living Room Tour 2011 since March 18th, ahead of his up coming new album which will drop sometime in May. This post is going to be a narrative of the nights events to try and leave some kind of impression.

I hadn’t ever been to a concert in someone’s living room before. I showed up and met a couple of friends at the gig. What threw me off though was standing in someone else’s living room wondering where the show was going to be. I kept on looking around and thinking “Gee I wonder where the gig is gonna be?” Come to find out I was standing on the would be stage. Once I wrapped my head around this reality I was ready for the show, and what a show it was!

Brent Knopf, A New Hope

Cover of "Intuit"

Cover of Intuit

I wish I had some breaking news for our readers today, but alas I only have my own hopes to pass along. Last night I was digging deep into the music collection and rediscovered Ramona Falls, a solo project by Brent Knopf. I first became aware of the release of his debut album, Intuit, when I was street teaming for Barsuk Records summer 2009. If had been writing this blog at the time the LP definitely would have been one of my ten best releases of the year.

David Bazan: 2011 Living Room Tour

David Bazan

I think I have just ran across probably the coolest tour idea ever. David Bazan is touring in this Spring and is looking for living rooms to host his tour stops. It is open to those people who living in the areas he stopping and his group is taking applications now. I can’t believe that when I finally move out of Montana something like this comes along and there are two opportunities for the state. I might have to talk Rune (Music the Vander Wey) into putting in an application and making it an On the Couch special.

The only down side is the shows wont be open to the public, but you wont have to sell tickets at the door either. All tickets will be sold via Bazan’s website and your spot must be able to hold 40-50 people.

Um, Uh Oh… New Say Hi in Seven Days

Cover of "Wishes & The Glitch"

The Wishes and the Glitch (2008)

Only seven days until the latest release from Say Hi, formerly Say Hi to Your Mom. In order to celebrate the release of Um, Uh Oh, I am posting my ten favorite Say Hi tracks. Today I will be posting number seven and below you will see numbers eight, nine, and ten.

#8 – “Yeah, I’m in Love with an Android”
#9 – “Blah, Blah, Blah”
#10 – “Let’s Talk About Spaceships”

Today’s entry comes from 2008′s The Wishes and the Glitch, the first album Eric Elbogen released with the new name Say Hi. He changed it after using Say Hi to Your Mom on four previous albums. This album was also the first release to be put out on vinyl and I couldn’t have been more excited. When I went to see Say Hi perform at Kilby Court in the fall of 2008, I made sure to get my copy of the LP.

Um, Uh Oh… New Say Hi in 10 Days

Cover of "Numbers & Mumbles"

Cover of Numbers & Mumbles (2004)

As you may or may not know January 25th is going to be one of the most important days of the year… well at least in the world of music. You see the 25th is the release date for a handful of highly anticipated albums, including Gutter Rainbows (Talib Kweli), Mine is Yours (Cold War Kids), Kiss Each Other Clean (Iron & Wine), and Kaputt (Destroyer).

There is another release coming out that day and it isn’t getting much hype. Eric Elbogen is the creative mind behind Say Hi, formerly Say Hi to Your Mom, and he will be releasing his seventh full-length album titled Um, Uh Oh.

New Deathcab Album in the Spring

Death Cab for Cutie has a new album coming out sometime in Spring 2011. It’s entitled Codes and Keys and I’m conflicted about the band’s new release.

Ok full disclosure, I was a huge Death Cab fan and that fandom started when I heard We Have The Facts and We’re Voting Yes. The album was amazing and I hadn’t heard anything like it before. In short I was hooked. Then followed Transatlanticism, a stellar album, and then Plans, which was pretty good. In 2008 Narrow Stairs, their largest and most anticipated release, hit record store’s shelves. Unfortunately for die-hard Death Cab fans, this record pushed the band into the main stream. It was god awful, a major disappointment, and can best be described as audio poison. I no longer wear my Death Cab t-shirts in public, in fear that I might be associated with the steaming pile of excrement that is Narrow Stairs.
