Good news everyone! One of my favorite bands, Stars, has a brand new album dropping September 4th entitled The North. These guys have been around for a while and they release a new album every couple of years. The North will be Stars’ sixth studio album. I gotta say I am freaking excited.
I started listening to Stars back in 2005 with the release of Set Yourself On Fire. It is one of my all time favorite albums and includes one of my favorite songs: “Your Ex Lover Is Dead.” That album immediately captured my heart and mind. But their next album, In Our Bedroom After The War, did not have the same effect on me. The first couple of times listening through the album I didn’t really like it. It wasn’t until like a year later that it hit me and I was able to figure it out. Then I loved it. The exact same thing happened with Stars last album The Five Ghosts. When I first heard it I hated it. The Five Ghosts has a very mainstream poppy polished feel, which is contrary to Set Yourself On Fire. But with enough time, The Five Ghosts totally established a strangle hold over me. It’s a fantastic record. I expect much of the same with The North. I’ve decided that I really do enjoy albums that grow on me. Their is something about slowly falling for an album.
At any rate, Stars just released their single for The North. And of course, On The Couch can bring you the scoop and the first listen. Enjoy “The Theory Of Relativity.”
