2011 is nearly behind us. Many other blogs are focused on the past 2011 albums, but not me. 2012 is going to be a great year of indie rock and roll! I’ve compiled a short list of upcoming albums to drool over that should be dropping sometime in 2012.
1. The Killers
Details are sparse, but Battle Born should be dropping sometime this summer. Rumor has it that The Killers will be back in good form, focusing on guitar. This album should sound a lot more like Hot Fuss and not like Day & Age. Good news!
2. The xx
The only details I can dredge up on this album is that it doesn’t have a name yet and that it has been heavily influenced by club music. I interpret that to mean that it will have faster beats and will sound dramatically different from the original XX. But not all change is bad. If anything the album will be mixed beautifully. Expect this unnamed album to drop sometime in the spring.
I have to say I am stupid excited about this release. The Silversun Pickups, I don’t think, have a single bad song or album. I don’t really believe they have any weak albums or songs. They are all brilliant. The new album is entitled 3. The band is hoping for a spring drop date. No details yet on what this new album will sound like. Silversun Pickups have released an EP for record store today back in November. The tracks off this EP were leftovers from Swoon, and won’t be included in the new record.
The new album is entitled No One Can Ever Know. Its set to drop in February 6th. This is The Twilight Sad‘s third album. It is said to be quite different sounding from their first two albums. Its less sonic and more focused and intense drum beats. I know this made me nervous but, thankfully, The Twilight Sad have released a single. Which made me feel a lot better.
5. The Cribs
There is nothing better than anticipating the new album from your favorite group. I’ve written at some length about the upcoming release. The only details I have though is that the album is going to be dropping sometime in May. This new album doesn’t have a name yet, but does have a 12 minute long song. This will be The Crib’s fifth album release. You can read more about The Cribs upcoming album HERE.
Check out The Silversun Pickup’s latest. This is “Sea Sick” from their Record Store day release. Below that, is the latest single from The Twilight Sad entitled “Sick.”
