Um, Uh Oh… New Say Hi Out Now

Eric Elbogen (Say Hi)

As you may or may not know tomorrow is going to be one of the most important days of the year… well at least in the world of music. You see the 25th is the release date for a handful of highly anticipated albums, including Gutter Rainbows (Talib Kweli), Mine is Yours (Cold War Kids), Kiss Each Other Clean (Iron & Wine), and Kaputt (Destroyer).

There is another release coming out that day and it isn’t getting much hype. Eric Elbogen is the creative mind behind Say Hi, and he will be releasing his seventh full-length album titled Um, Uh Oh. In order to celebrate the release of Um, Uh Oh, I am posting my ten favorite Say Hi tracks. Today I will be posting number one, below you will see my previous posts.

#2 – “They Write Books About this Sort of Thing”
#3 – “Maurine”
#4 – “I Think I’ll Be A Good Ghost”
#5 – “These Fangs”
#6 – “Your Brains vs My Tractorbeam”
#7 – “Northwestern Girls”
#8 – “Yeah, I’m in Love with an Android”
#9 – “Blah, Blah, Blah”
#10 – “Let’s Talk About Spaceships”

My number one favorite song of all-time from Say Hi has to be “Spiders” from 2008′s The Wishes and the Glitch. You may remember that I have mentioned the first time I saw Say Hi live. After that experience I wrote a small entry in my personal blog right after and I though I would share part of that entry with you. Keep in mind I wrote this about seeing Say Hi live for the first time and they ended the show with “Spiders” and from then on out it has been my favorite song.

Before I know it they are down to their last song. All of the usual “you have been a great crowd” and “thank yous” are tossed out. The show is ending with a bit of sadness but not the type that you feel cause you want your night to keep charging on. It’s a sadness you feel because you realize that you just were apart of something you have being planning for months. Now that it has been accomplished what will you do next? That will have to be dealt with later because the show is ending and all you can hear in your head are the fading lyrics of the last song:

And there are spiders
under my skin when she’s not around
And there are spiders
creeping ’round next to organs I need
And there are spiders
under my skin when she’s not next to me
And there are spiders
breeding armies
