As you may or may not know January 25th is going to be one of the most important days of the year… well at least in the world of music. You see the 25th is the release date for a handful of highly anticipated albums, including Gutter Rainbows (Talib Kweli), Mine is Yours (Cold War Kids), Kiss Each Other Clean (Iron & Wine), and Kaputt (Destroyer).
There is another release coming out that day and it isn’t getting much hype. Eric Elbogen is the creative mind behind Say Hi, formerly Say Hi to Your Mom, and he will be releasing his seventh full-length album titled Um, Uh Oh.
It is hard to obsess over bands this day in age because our attention is caught by the next shiny new thing, but Eric’s work has held my ear for years now. I got on the Say Hi train a little late after Rune (Music the Vander Wey) introduced me to them in the winter of 2007 and I have held Say Hi’s music with the highest regard ever since. Plus, it is helpful that Eric’s music isn’t being whored out to the mindless top-40 crowd.
I would like to share my love for Say Hi with our readers here On the Couch. So, in order to celebrate Um, Uh Oh, starting today I will be posting one of my 10 favorite Say Hi songs daily until the release date. Hopefully this gives me a chance to reflect on all of his great music and helps you get to know his work, so when you go and buy the album you’re ready for his style.
