Now Presenting: Love Is Chemicals
Posted by musicthevanderwey in Alternative, Indie Rock on February 28, 2012
Alright its time to fall into the deep fiery chasm of hipster indie rock. I’ve been going back through my music library and listening and re-listening to numerous bands. I’m sitting back and waiting for numerous albums to drop this spring, in the mean time I’m killing time. This week, I’ve stumbled onto one of my obscure favorites from back in 2008, an album called Song of The Summer Youth Brigade from the awesome band Love Is Chemicals.

I just picked up my vinyl copy of Sleigh Bells Reign of Terror. Tons goodies were included, I will have a full post later this week!

Chattanooga based noise-pop band Moonlight Bride will release their new EP, Twin Lakes, on Feb 28th. But because this blog is so über cool I was forwarded a copy of the EP before the release date. Yes… yes the On the Couch crew gets stuff early, I can’t believe it either.

Good news! My favorite band The Cribs have officially announced their fifth studio album entitled In The Belly Of The Brazen Bull, which is due out May 8th. I love the opportunity to do a post about my favorite band. It’s all adrenaline and pure anticipation.
The Twilight Sad: No One Can Ever Know

I absolutely adore The Twilight Sad‘s last two albums Forget The Night Ahead and Fourteen Autumns and Fifteen Winters, but now they have a brand spanking new album out entitled No One Can Ever Know. The big headline with the new album is that it is a dramatic detour from their previous albums.
Jack White Solo Album?!

Holy shit son of a bitch! Yesterday, Jack White has announced that his new solo album, Blunderbuss, is set to drop on April 23rd. Blunderbuss will be released through his label, Third Man Records. This news comes nearly a year after the announcement that The White Stripes were breaking up. You can read about my heart-break over that break up HERE.
Frankly, I am surprised that Jack White went ahead with a solo album. He already has two amazing, cutting edge bands: The Dead Weather and The Raconteurs. Since The White Stripes broke up, Jack White has spent his time writing music and producing records. He is a top man in his field of rocking awesomeness.
Now Presenting: Kasabian Velociraptor!

There has been a wash of good albums released in the last six months, making me feel like a kid in some kind of a store that sells candy. One album, in particular, has got me excited. Kasabian released their fourth full length album entitled Velociraptor!, back in September. I love albums with exclamation points in the title, it’s always a good sign.
Friday Night Beats

Dance Party Anyone?
Friday night is the most magical night of the week, I mean they only happen once every seven days. They mark the end of the work week when everyone wants to get out the house and blow off some stress and create some havoc. Many flock to their local watering holes and get assaulted by soulless dance pop. I can see the pain on people’s faces who enjoy real music. They are usually twisted in horror and shame for dancing to a Katy Perry song. I’ve even seen a couple of indie rock chicks stop at the end of a particularly bad song to start miming blowing each others brains out in a last-ditch effort to stop the pain.
Phony Ppl: Phonyland

It isn’t often you can get your hands on complete albums for free these days. Especially from a large group of talented musicians. If you read my posts you know I love music that feature musicians. It is astounding how many popular artists aren’t musicians and rely on synthetic noise makers to create music.
The Big Pink: Future This
Posted by musicthevanderwey in Alternative, Electro Pop, Indie Rock, New Releases on January 23, 2012
In between long bouts of rocking out to Veronica Falls, I’ve been enjoying the latest from another British band The Big Pink. This week they have just released their second album entitled Future This. Mr. T. William turned me onto their first album A Brief History Of Love back in 2009. I adored “Velvet” and “Dominos.” I think both of them were singles for that album. The only problem with A Brief History Of Love, was that “Dominos” and “Velvet” were only two really good songs on the entire album. The rest were only… meh.
